Here's a link to the movie version of John Buscema and Stan Lee's "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way", chapter 1. If you've read the book (which is a must, since it's probably THE foundational work for students wishing to learn to draw comics), they don't cover much new ground in the movie version that's not in the book.

However, there's a VERY short demonstration (about 7 seconds) of using a brush to ink. It's at 2:55. Note the thin to thick to thin lines done in a single stroke!

After this is a demonstration of HOW TO CLEAN YOUR BRUSH! This is a very important yet neglected bit of information that I've found is not usually covered in most inking books. It's at 3:03.

Here's the link. It doesn't play while embedded, so you'll need to click it once till it says "Embedding disabled by request", then move your cursor inside the image till it becomes a pointing hand and click again. This will take you to the original clip in Youtube.

Though not recommended for general comic book inking, this grip can be useful for making long lines of consistent thickness as you slide the side of your hand across the drawing surface for support:

Any suggestions on lettering would be much appreciated! I have an example of my horrible hand lettering, then some lettering I used with the MS Paint.

These images refer to the soapbox "HOW TO DRAW COMICS: INKING WITH A BRUSH pt 9" which you can read here.

The following marks are made by touching the brush to the paper without moving it across the paper.

I am stoked about this! I think your idea of including the minor details is a tremendous one. I will be keeping a close eye on this Rick, and will be recommending it to a few guys I know. Thanks in advance.

Hey, gang.

Since I'm going to be discussing the topic of How to Draw Comics over the next few months in my soapbox, I thought I would start by collecting the best links I could find on the topic in one place. Much of this information will be familiar to you, but I thought it would be nice to have one place to gather all such information. Feel free to add links as you find them.

This thread is for collecting juicy links to the work of great artists that have been inspirational to you as a comics artist.

I'll start with this one: http://goldenagecomicbookstories.blogspot.com/.

A truly incredible compendium of works by many of the great illustrators and comic artists of the past. So much beautiful art it's almost blindingly difficult to sort through!

My hope is to create a clearinghouse of the best information available anywhere online for up-and-coming comic artists to quickly access.
