    Hey, gang.

Since I'm going to be discussing the topic of How to Draw Comics over the next few months in my soapbox, I thought I would start by collecting the best links I could find on the topic in one place. Much of this information will be familiar to you, but I thought it would be nice to have one place to gather all such information. Feel free to add links as you find them.

If you haven't seen these clips yet, you should. It's John Romita, Sr., Joe Kubert, John Buscema, Bill Sienkiewicz, Dave Gibbons, and Travis Charest each drawing and inking a figure. A real treat.

First, John Romita, Sr. drawing Spider-Man (what else), followed by Joe Kubert drawing what looks like an alternate Batman (can anyone enlighten us?):

Hey Rick, the Youtube clips are a great idea.

Just curious, do you ever use Photoshop or Illustrator in your work ?

It's funny you ask. On the next story we'll be presenting after UFO--called Iron Harvest by the way--I'll be using lots of Illustrator and Photoshop. The story calls for a great deal of video imagery, logos, special lighting effects, and so on. So it's going to have a very different look than the previous stories. I still plan on inking lots of it with a brush, just finishing it in the computer.

I'm with cbikle. I like the clips idea. What about putting together a list of links to non-video stuff?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've started a new thread about it here. Feel free to add whatever links you think are interesting, especially those that helped you in your journey to create comic art.

Bill Sienkiewicz blows my mind! I have loved this guy since I bought Moon Knight #1 off the newstand back in the day! Watching him at work was a real treat!

I bought Moon Knight #1 off the stands, too. Loved the art. Who knew he'd go on to develop such a singular voice after his Neal Adams-influenced days.

Off topic, I think MK#1 came out the same month as Teen Titans #1, which I also bought off the stands.

Ha thats funny, I was thinking about the Teen Titans when I wrote about Moon Knight, I started collecting both titles off the stands at the same time. It was a fun time to be a comic-book fan!

Too true. Back then you could buy one title and not have to worry about following a whole "universe".

Yup, you didn't have to purchase 17 variants of those first issues either. It was before they started holding fans ransom. Another little Moon Knight tidbit, when they switched the title over to direct sales only, it made it extremely difficult for me to collect as I lived in a small town. That really sucked!

Thankfully I grew up in a college town with a great little comic shop. I never realized how lucky I was. As weird as it sounds, I wonder how much different my life would have been without it.

Here's Chapter 1 of the movie version of "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way" by Stan Lee and John Buscema. If you haven't read the book it's based on, it's the first book you should study on drawing comics, mainly because it's the original. Most other books on drawing comics are built on its foundation, whether explicitly or implicitly.

The movie is mostly just the book in video form, but there are a few extras, especially in the first chapter where you get to see Big John explain and demonstrate his tools.

This Youtube link doesn't play while embedded, so you'll need to click it once till it says "Embedding disabled by request", then move your cursor inside the image till it becomes a pointing hand and click again. This will take you to the original clip in Youtube.

To view the other chapters, go to the "Related Videos" section to the right of the Youtube page and select one.
